Knobstick with charolais cow horn handle on hazel

0023_04August 2009, Knobstick with brown Charolais cow horn handle with a buffalo horn spacer on a hazel shaft.

The horn has a beautiful ringed pattern and in varied brown tones. The stick has been finished with 3 coats of Yacht varnish and a steel tipped, brass ferrule.

    How did you achieve such a great finish?

    Lots of sanding with very fine paper followed by 00000 grade wire wool, it was then varnished (which is cheating a little). When my new workshop is completed (very soon hopefully!!!) I’ll use abrasive cloths and vonax on a bench grinder to polish horn to a mirror finish.

    It is a very nice piece of Charolais, lovely pattern.
