This is a rather flamboyant stick that will definitely be noticed on the hill.
The handle has been created from an Exmoor red deer antler piece, each side capped with a different cow horn tip. One side is a lovely cream coloured Charolais cow horn tip and the other is a contrasting black Saler cow horn tip.
The top of the shaft has a delicate curve which meets the handle perfectly. This is a very comfortable and unique thumbstick.
The stick has been finished with Danish oil and beeswax polish and has been left uncut. A brass ferrule will be fitted when the stick has been cut to the desired length.

Nature can sometimes create sticks that need nothing more than gentle seasoning and sympathetic finishing to create the perfect walking stick.
This is a fantastic example of a twisted ‘crone’ stick. Honeysuckle has constricted the branch as it grew, creating the winding corkscrew shape that can be seen in this stick. The handle still displays the remnant of honeysuckle and the twist creates a very comfortable handle. The twist continues lower down creating a corcrscrew down to the bottom of the stick.

This is a very sturdy, imposing stick, definitely for the larger hand.

Buffalo horn handle on a beautifully spalted hazel shaft, showing natures artistic patterning at it’s best. Finished with 3 coats of Danish oil and beeswax.
A sturdy, strong stick with a great contrast between the dark knobbly blackthorn shaft and the stunning pattern of the Exmoor red deer antler thumpiece. The handle fits seamlessly on to the shaft and is capped with polished black buffalo horn. The stick has been finished with 3 coats of Danish oil.
This is a very strong stick employing the power and rigidity that blackthorn is renowned for. Blackthorn sticks are always in demand and I admit that I will find it difficult to part with this piece.
The blackthorn symbolises the themes of light and darkness, good and evil. The bright white of the blackthorn’s blossom contrasts with the dark, almost black branches, dressed with menacing spines and flowing with blood red sap. The blossom, branches and sap display the three colours of the great goddess, white, black and red and as it’s name suggests, the blackthorn has long been associated with the darker side of life, night and death.
Blackthorn has strong associations with witches. In England Witches would carve the Norse Rune Thorn on a Blackthorn Stave for protection. Rural customs, particularly in eastern parts of Europe revere blackthorn as a symbol of protection against evil, a tradition which is still employed today.
Red antler coronet (Exmoor) on a crab apple shaft.
The crab apple shaft has stunning deep red colour with lots of ‘knobbles’ very much like the best of blackthorn. The stick is nicely tapered and the coronet makes this a very handy ‘fruit picker’ allowing you to reach high branches with the natural hook shape of the handle. The stick is finished with 3 coats of danish oil and a steel tipped, brass ferrule.

The stick has a natural twist caused by honeysuckle creeping around the stick as it was growing. The stick has been finished with 3 coats of danish oil and a steel tipped, brass ferrule.
